call for quotas
for women
Quotas are needed to ensure equal representation of women in the private and public sectors, agreed most participants in a meeting held by the EP Women's Rights and Gender Equality Committee with national parliaments' representatives on Thursday, ahead of the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day on 8 March. Speakers also advocated changing national electoral rules to increase women's representation at local, regional and national level in politics. Women's Rights Committee Chair Eva-Britt Svensson (GUE/NGL, SE), stressed the progress made since the women's rights movement had begun fighting for the right to work, to vote and education. She noted that this European Parliament, 35 % of whose members are women, is the most gender-balanced yet. Una nuova strategia energetica per i
prossimi dieci anni Al Consiglio "Energia" del 28 febbraio i ministri hanno definito le priorità dell'UE in materia energetica per il decennio 2011-2020. L'obiettivo è di assicurare la disponibilità di energia sostenibile, sicura ed economicamente accessibile per tutti gli europei. "Siamo sulla buona strada verso la definizione delle nostre politiche e l'attuazione di tutte le decisioni adottate nella riunione del Consiglio europeo del 4 febbraio riguardo allo sviluppo del mercato interno entro il 2014 ed alla "politica del non isolamento" entro il 2015," ha affermato Tamás Fellegi, ministro ungherese dello sviluppo nazionale che ha presieduto la sessione del Consiglio. A febbraio i leader di tutti gli Stati membri hanno convenuto sulla necessità di completare il mercato interno dell'energia entro il 2014. Hanno inoltre sottolineato la necessità di aggiornare ed ampliare le infrastrutture energetiche, in modo tale che entro il 2015 ciascuno Stato membro sia connesso alle reti europee. ECHA Publishes Report on Evaluation in 2010The Evaluation Report describes ECHA's work in evaluating REACH registration dossiers in 2010. The report also provides recommendations to registrants. The report presents details and figures on the different REACH evaluation activities and their respective output. In 2010, ECHA examined 273 dossiers for evaluation: 151 compliance checks and 123 examinations of testing proposals. Seventy of these compliance checks and seven testing proposals were completed in 2010. The remaining dossiers are still being worked on. The report concludes that ECHA identified quality problems in a considerable proportion of dossiers in 2010. It is, however, too soon to draw firm conclusions on the quality of dossiers registered by the first registration deadline as most of dossier evaluation work is still to come. Give your views on future health and safety risks in green jobs 01.03.2011In January 2010 EU-OSHA’s European Risk Observatory (ERO) commissioned a foresight study to explore the potential for emerging risks to health and safety arising out of new technologies in green jobs by 2020. The objective is to allow decision makers to anticipate and prepare for these emerging risks. The study will continue until January 2012 and will use the scenario building technique to produce descriptions of a range of possible futures of OSH in green jobs.
