MEPs back
fresh EU
money to
develop
low-carbon
technologies
- Plans to
step up EU
funding to
develop
innovative
low-carbon
technologies
to help cut
greenhouse
gas
emissions by
20% by 2020
were
welcomed in
a resolution
approved by
Parliament
on Thursday.
MEPs want
the EU
funding to
develop
applications
for these
technologies
over the
next 10
years, but
also
acknowledge
that
additional

will be

forecasts
show EU on
track to
meet 20%
target -
The EU will
surpass its
target to
consume 20
per cent of
its energy
from
renewable
energy by
2020,
according to
national
forecasts
submitted to
the European
Commission.
In its
summary
published
today, the
Commission
finds that
the EU will
reach an
overall
share of
20,3 per
cent
renewables.

project,
backed by
the EU with
EUR 954 000
under the
Seventh
Framework
Programme
(FP7), is
determined
to define a
novel system
and a
nanomaterial
to replace
steel and
aluminium
for
structural
profiles.

Car
safety: European Commission
welcomes international agreement on electric
and hybrid cars - The European
Commission welcomes the adoption today at
the United Nations in Geneva of the first
international regulation on safety of both
fully electric and hybrid cars. This
landmark decision will facilitate the early
introduction of safe and clean electric cars
onto our roads. The technical regulation
adopted today at the United Nations Economic
Commission for Europe (UNECE) ensures that
cars with a high voltage electric power
train, such as hybrid and fully electric
vehicles, are as safe as conventional cars.
Hybrid and electric cars are increasingly
available on the market and are very
promising in terms of making road transport
clean and energy-efficient.
