Il Commissario Kuneva accoglie una conferenza ad alto livello in materia di economia comportamentista - In data odierna Meglena Kuneva, Commissario UE responsabile per i consumatori, ha accolto ricercatori ed esperti internazionali di economia e di politica convenuti a Bruxelles per partecipare ad una conferenza volta a discutere il ruolo che l'economia comportamentista può svolgere nello sviluppo di politiche maggiormente funzionali agli interessi dei consumatori. L'economia comportamentista è una disciplina relativamente nuova ma in rapida espansione che combina gli aspetti dell'economia e quelli della ricerca sperimentale sui comportamenti per esaminare le motivazioni che spingono i consumatori a fare compere e acquisti, per determinare i fattori che li influenzano nelle loro decisioni d'acquisto e per studiare in che modo queste si ripercuotono sul mercato. L'economia europea deve emancipare i consumatori se si vuole che essa sia più performante e se si vuole stimolare la concorrenza. Resta il fatto però che al giorno d'oggi la complessità dei mercati può limitare la capacità dei consumatori di fare scelte ottimali. La conferenza di oggi esaminerà i casi in cui l'economia comportamentista ha già portato all'elaborazione di migliori politiche che tengono conto di queste complessità e i partecipanti saranno invitati a dibattere sul modo in cui l'economia comportamentista possa contribuire a configurare la legislazione UE del futuro. Questo evento potrebbe essere il punto di avvio per fare un uso maggiore degli strumenti comportamentisti al fine di migliorare il processo decisionale e politico in Europa. continua ...

29/11/2008	Manual workers more likely to be jobless or economically inactive at 50 - French Employment Ministry researchers have tried to explore the link between the hardships of work and early separation from the workforce using the findings of the 2003 Health Survey done in France by INSEE. In 2003, a quarter of France’s older persons (aged 50 to 59) were out of the labour force, either fully retired, on early retirement, registered unemployed or economically inactive. Most who had taken early retirement or a bridging pension are public sector workers who had more often been exposed to shift and night work. In general, they thought themselves healthy compared to the other categories. Manual workers are more likely to be registered unemployed or economically inactive, notes the study. Most unemployed or economically inactive older persons are manual workers who had previously worked in industry, building, and consumer services, where they had been exposed to many physical hardships during their career. They had high exposure to gruelling work, especially carrying heavy loads and work in painful positions. Their perception of their health is particularly negative: 38% report "average" and 15% “poor” health, against 20% and 3% for early pensioners and 26% and 4% for all French fifty-somethings, respectively. Working with the body in a neutral position reduces stress and strain on the muscles, tendons, and skeletal system, and therefore reduces the risk of workers developing MSDs. This checklist includes questions on working postures of the back and neck, arms and hands, legs during sitting and standing tasks. It also gives examples of the type of action at a technical, organisational and individual level that can be put in place to prevent or reduce the risks caused by awkward postures. E-fact 44 - Checklist for the prevention of manual handling risks Manual handling of loads (MHL) includes lifting, holding, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying and moving a load. It is one of the major causes of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This checklist is aimed at helping to carry out a risk assessment and it includes questions related to all aspects of manual handling and offers examples of preventive measures that can help to improve handling and therefore reduce risks. E-fact 43 - Checklist for preventing WRULDs Work-related neck and upper limb disorders (WRULDs) are impairments of bodily structures such as to a tendon, nerve, muscle, joint, bursa or the localised blood circulation system. Principally, they are caused by the performance of work and by the effects of the immediate environment where that work is carried out. This checklist helps to identify the particular factors that can contribute to workers developing WRULDs. Furthermore, it gives examples about the practical steps that can be taken to prevent or reduce the risks of workers sustaining WRULDs. E-fact 42 - Checklist for prevention of lower limb disorders Work-related lower limb disorders (LLDs) are impairments of bodily structures such as a tendon, muscle, nerve, joint and bursa caused or aggravated primarily by the performance of work and by the effects of the immediate environment where the work is carried out. They can affect the lower extremities, mainly hip, knee and feet.This checklist concerns hazards for injury or development of disorders to the lower limb and is targeted at people engaged in workplace hazard identification. In addition, this checklist offers examples of preventive measures that can help to reduce LLDs risks.
