Security research for a safer world - Making Europe more secure for its citizens while maintaining civil rights and liberties is the goal of European Security Research. By co-operating and coordinating efforts on a Europe-wide scale, the EU can better understand and adequately respond to risks in a constantly changing world and enhance its competitiveness at the same time. Innovative technological solutions such as advanced video surveillance in public stadium areas facilitate the action of security authorities. This is a new common research project involving 23 European security administrations and one United Nations agency to benefit from each others experience, to avoid duplication and to obtain a critical mass of resources. The research network, called EU-SEC II, is funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme for Research. It is one, among many, concrete action that will be presented today at the third European Security Research Conference. more ... |

Work-life balance package Why is work-life balance important? Policies to help people balance professional, private and family life improve quality of life for both women and men and increase participation in the labour market, particularly for women. They are also an important element in dealing with demographic ageing: those countries with more women in employment are also the countries with the highest birth rates. Improving work-life balance is at the core of Europe's strategy for growth and jobs and the European Parliament has consistently called for more action to improve work-life balance, as have national governments in the Council. more ... |

Grazie a congedi maternità più lunghi e con condizioni migliori la Commissione migliora l'equilibrio tra la vita professionale e la vita privata per milioni di cittadini - Milioni di donne in tutta Europa avranno diritto a un congedo maternità più lungo e con migliori condizioni grazie alle proposte presentate oggi dalla Commissione europea. Una proposta a parte migliorerà inoltre anche la situazione delle lavoratrici autonome offrendo loro un accesso equivalente al congedo maternità su base volontaria. Le due iniziative fanno parte di un pacchetto di misure per migliorare l'equilibrio fra vita privata e vita professionale per tutti i cittadini europei, sia uomini che donne. L'obiettivo è quello di aggiornare e migliorare la legislazione comunitaria esistente e la proposta sarà inviata al Parlamento europeo e ai governi nazionali per essere discussa. Nel frattempo le parti sociali europee hanno avviato negoziati per migliorare altri tipi di congedo per motivi familiari, quali il congedo parentale. more ... |

50 giovani europei fanno una
prima esperienza di cosa vuol dire lavorare all’estero 50 giovani in cerca di lavoro cui è stato offerto un primo collocamento in un altro paese europeo condivideranno le loro esperienze in occasione di un apposito evento che si terrà domani a Parigi. Assieme a loro vi saranno datori di lavoro e consulenti in materia di mobilità del lavoro facenti capo a EURES – la Rete europea dei servizi dell’occupazione. L’iniziativa della Commissione europea intitolata “Il tuo primo lavoro all’estero” intende evidenziare i vantaggi derivanti da una maggiore mobilità del lavoro e dal diritto di lavorare in qualsiasi paese dell’UE. more ... |
| 04/10/2008 | European Risk Observatory: more and more people face psychosocial risks at work - Working environments are significantly changing with the introduction of new technologies, materials and work processes. Changes in work design, organisation and management can produce new risk areas that can result in increased stress levels and may finally lead to a serious deterioration of mental and physical health. A new report by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work shows that the main psychosocial risks are related to new forms of employment contracts, job insecurity, work intensification, high emotional demands, violence at work and a poor work-life balance. more ... |

Sécurité des machines - Ce dossier vise à donner une vue générale de la législation et des normes relatives à la conception de machines sûres, de même que du processus de révision de quatre documents techniques de base. Il présente, par ailleurs, le travail réalisé par l’ETUI-REHS en vue de coordonner l'intervention des syndicats, aux niveaux national et européen, et de soutenir leurs positions dans le cadre du débat européen sur les machines. Ce dossier trace également des voies permettant de renforcer l'intervention des travailleurs dans le processus d’élaboration des "normes machines". suite ... |
